Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Head of Health and Safety to join our team. 

In this role, you will take accountability for setting, managing and driving our H&S initiatives and strategy, with a focus on the implementation and delivery of our H&S Management System and to act as the Competent Person for Legal and General, ensuring that we are compliant, working within legislation and that our Property and Workplace Health and Safety responsibilities are being met.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading on the design and provision of management information and data for H&S performance and risks across L&Gs Property and Workplace global portfolio and lead on the groupwide planning, preparation and delivery of key annual and quarterly reporting requirements to Group H&S Governance fora.
  • Designing, developing and managing the development and implementation of our H&S management framework and tools, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. Accountable for continually developing best practice and managing the output from our audit and compliance activities, ensuring that all requirements and recommendations are assessed, prioritised and delivered within agreed timescales.
  • Providing practical and actionable advice and guidance to stakeholders including the Property and Workplace team and associated partners on a wide range of H&S topics. Monitoring and reporting on regulatory developments as they apply to the L&G Group, providing impact assessments for those relating to the corporate environment and employee workplace health, safety and wellbeing, establishing implications and ensuring the delivery of required actions.
  • Accountable for development a set of specific, measurable, proportionate and timely KPIs that demonstrate L&Gs commitment to key aspects of occupational Health and Safety and are aligned to Group appetite. Contribute thought leadership to the Groups SME networks.
  • Development and delivery of a robust cohesive communication programme for employees and key stakeholders across L&G with regards to H&S risks, opportunities, and commitments, with specific focus on engaging colleagues with practical H&S principals.
  • Collaborating and leading on specific elements of developing and delivering L&G’s H&S strategy across the Group, with particular focus on occupational health, safety and wellbeing in line with our Consumer Duty principles and standards
  • Taking the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent)
  • Excellent communicator/articulate
  • Self-Motivated
  • Strategic thinker
  • Industry networker
  • Experience of working in a similar role within a large, multi-disciplinary, complex corporate environment
  • Experience of in-house corporate health and safety management.
  • Experience of working with and presenting to company boards and senior executive teams
  • Ability to lead a team and show leadership across the business, with proven experience in successfully influencing others, particularly in encouraging others to change behaviour and processes at a senior/executive level.
