Job Description

We are looking for an experience Pension Scheme Manager to drive excellent scheme governance on behalf of the Mastertrust Board and Independent Governance Committee. 

Principal responsibilities 

  • Working with the Pension Scheme Director and other Pension Scheme Managers to drive the Mastertrust Board (trust-based schemes) and Independent Governance Committee (contract-based schemes). 
  • Using your knowledge of emerging changes in the DC market to support in ensuring that these independent bodies are discussing and influencing the direction of travel for regulations and best practise standards across DC and Master Trust schemes.
  • Liaising with key stakeholder across Legal & General on delivering the trustee’s strategic priorities and in continuing to develop the products and services offered to trust and contract-based DC members.
  • Managing and owning activities on behalf of the Board and IGC and deputising for the Pension Scheme Director in wider internal and external stakeholder engagements.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the Defined Contribution market risks, opportunities, legislative changes and market developments.  Ensuring developments are included on agendas taking a forward-looking approach to drive the strategic development of the scheme.  Working with L&G business representatives to ensure that the Trustees and IGC’s strategies and governance requirements are aligned with the business and successfully delivered.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the master trust authorisation and supervision requirements, ensuring the master trust is meeting new and emerging requirements and expectations with an objective to deliver excellent scheme governance.
  • Taking ownership of activities, working closely with external parties and L&G business representatives on matters such as:
    • Capturing key governance controls throughout the year and summarising within the annual report (IGC) and Chair’s Statement (Mastertrust). This includes leading on the annual value for money assessment.
    • The annual Mastertrust Assurance Framework Audit, collating evidence on controls and measures in place and drafting the report. 
    • Producing the annual Mastertrust Report and Accounts, collating and supplying evidence required.
  • Drafting and agreeing agendas. Writing, collating and consolidating papers, liaising with the company secretarial team, L&G business representatives and external speakers to quality assure papers and presentations and follow up on actions.
  • Deputising for the Pension Director at Board and IGC meetings, ensuring robust scheme governance and driving the strategic direction of the schemes. This could include representing the scheme at external events and in discussions with Regulators (FCA and TPR).
  • Supporting the Pension Director with managing third party relationships and conducting regular reviews of service providers. Procuring external specialist advice as requested by the Trustee Board or IGC.
  • Supporting the Pension Scheme Management Team in providing executive support across different specialist areas including operations, communications, investment, or risk.  This may include leading member or employer engagement meetings, preparation of regulatory documents and approval of discretionary decisions.
  • Supporting the Pension Director with miscellaneous tasks, including payment of invoices and managing expenses, organising meetings and representing the schemes at events or meetings.

Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of DC Workplace pension product solutions and marketplace (Occupational Trust, Contract, Mastertrust).
  • Experience and knowledge of master trust authorisation and supervision requirements would be beneficial.
  • Ability to succinctly summarise information drawing out the key points relevant to decision makers
  • Demonstrable communications skills, the ability to articulate and convey information in a clear and compelling manner in writing and in person
  • Ability to build good working relationships with professionals across the L&G business, our board and IGC and service providers.
  • Highly organised. Able to deal with multiple tasks at the same time and co-ordinate input from various stakeholders.

  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
