Job Description

Your role at a glance

Legal & General Suburban Build to Rent is recruiting for a Management Accountant reporting to the Financial Controller and supporting the whole Finance function.  Responsibilities will include support in month end reporting of financial results to the Group through relevant IT systems, HMRC returns, assistance with setting up corporate structure, banking services and finance IT projects. Supporting the Finance Team in the development and maintenance of budget trackers for schemes, the wider management of the SBTR operational overheads budget and forecast, appropriate controls and finance operations to enable effective support of the business.

 

L&G Suburban BTR (Build to Rent) is a new wholly owned subsidiary of Legal & General, tasked with bringing much needed institutional capital to the nascent UK BTR family housing sector. 

 

What you'll be doing

  • Support the production of monthly management accounts, reports and ad hoc financial analysis for relevant business areas, ensuring that all financial transactions are properly recorded in the accounting system, filed and reported, contributing to the team’s financial control objectives and deadlines.
  • Develop relationships across SBTR and LGC, acting as a point of contact for their financial reporting, forecasting and budget control queries and analysis. 
  • Develop, manage, and maintain budget trackers for both forward funding and direct delivery schemes, and the wider management of the SBTR operational overheads budget and forecast. This will involve working with the scheme investment/development managers and SBTR operational overhead budget owners to ensure that projects are tracking to budget and are being accurately reported.
  • Supporting audit processes in relevant areas by resolving year-end queries and liaise with external personnel as required to ensure proper compliance with regulations and delivering in line with the audit timetable. 
  • Oversee day-to-day operational finance activities including accounts receivable, accounts payable, maintenance of fixed asset register, review of journals and payment run. Monthly VAT/CIS returns. Manage the completion of bank and balance sheet reconciliations. 
  • To ensure that Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) is considered throughout the product lifecycle, to enable the development of products that meet customers’ needs at an appropriate cost and which promote Legal & General’s image as a firm where the fair treatment of customers is central to the corporate culture.
     

 

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), working towards accounting qualification or by relevant experience in accounting roles
  • An understanding of the corporate environment and ability to work to deadlines 
  • Previous experience of working in Finance Department and with accounting systems, in particular real estate accounting software COINS desirable
  • Excellent numeracy, double entry and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Commercially minded; a drive to deliver better financial solutions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant work experience in real estate or infrastructure desirable, preferably with a residential/ housing focus.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a start-up environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across team and departments.
