Job Description
The role holder will join our team of risk professionals within the LGIM business as part of the global Chief Risk Officer function to provide 2nd line operational risk oversight (advisory, review and challenge) to limit the occurrence and business impacts from adverse events, while contributing to business success through management of operational risk.
The role holder will partner with business and functional teams to ensure that risk frameworks and policies are well understood and embedded, with new/existing risks effectively managed so contributing to the successful execution of the business strategy in a controlled manner.
Primary focus will be partnering the Real Assets business through a significant programme of change in line with our strategic objectives to modernise, diversify and internationalise the business.
The role requires being hands on and being part of continuous development and improvement of the Operational Risk Function as we partner with the business to better help them manage risk.
What you'll be doing
- Leadership and Stakeholder Management
- Providing detailed operational risk opinion and risk management technical expertise, thought leadership and other input at key meetings, formal committees and Boards when required. Maintains an open and effective dialogue with all stakeholders, including business and team members. Providing support to build confidence in Risk Advisory services and our strategy. Team leadership as and when required.
- Developing close working relationships with senior influencers throughout LGIM to resolve barriers and to further embed the effective management of operational risk and frameworks.
- Helping take forward our globalisation agenda, working with stakeholders across the LGIM business to deliver a consistent approach which reflects best practice. Taking part in Group conversations and working groups as required.
- Operational advisory and risk reviews
- Providing effective advice & guidance to drive business management to improve their understanding of the operational risk landscape, develop definitions of risk appetite and key risk indicators, monitor those risks and provide advice to address items outside risk appetite. Carrying out operational risk reviews within set deadlines, identify regulatory issues & risks while carrying out effective testing. Ensuring mitigating actions to resolve adverse findings are carried out in a timely fashion.
- Risk & Change
- Taking responsibility for allocated projects and input into our risk and change methodology so as to better embed risk opinion into change initiatives. Representing operational risk at project meetings and steerco’s.
- Capital Adequacy
- Leading on capital adequacy operational risk assessments and input into the requirements of U.S. and non-U.S. capital requirements.
- Ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements the firm’s Operational Risk Framework and internal Policies and Standards.
- Risk Framework
- Inputting into the development and deployment of efficient operational risk frameworks to oversee management and maintenance of risk processes & systems used in the business to identify and monitor control effectiveness of key operational risks.
- Maintaining a detailed knowledge of policy and framework requirements of the parent company, keeping abreast of changes and developments, discussing relevant topics and articulating risk profiles in an informed manner and acting as subject matter expert to ensure all parent-company requirements are accurately incorporated and that each aspect of operational risk is fully managed.
- Education and Communication
- Applying an effective communication strategy that keeps both the team and the business updated on the risk management journey, including continued education to the business in effective risk management.
- Provision of Tools and Processes
- Supporting the use of the risk system for First and Second Line to manage Operational Risk activity and oversee the deployment of risk tools through interaction into the business itself. Ensuring there are mechanisms (controls and oversight) in place to manage the integrity of the data quality into the risk system so the desired output is achieved.
- Provision of Effective Management Information Reporting
- Working closely with the MI & Reporting team, ensure the professional, clear and consistent delivery of Risk MI across all relevant committees and boards, ensuring the format used takes into account the views and requirements of stakeholders such as the parent company, First Line and colleagues across the Second Line.
- Providing insightful analysis and interpretation of risks to better help partner and support the business.
Qualifications
What we're looking for
- Substantial experience of 10 plus years
- Professional qualifications in relation to the role are desirable
- Project management accreditation is desirable, but not required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the international asset management industry including investor types, distributional channels, the competitor landscape.
- A sound, relevant and robust knowledge of the business which is recognised and valued by the business and can demonstrate a track record of management in the First and Second Line of Defence seeking their counsel and opinion.
- Excellent technical knowledge of risk management frameworks, risk assessments, risk events, metrics and systems and of best practice around Operational risk sub-types for example Operational Resilience and Outsourcing.
- Understanding of how the Operational Risk Framework and activities contribute to and influence how Operational Risk capital fits within the context of broader capital requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and both written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to fully participate and successfully influence effectively at all levels in the business.
- Excellent presentation skills including the ability to articulate and convey theoretical concepts such as risk profile and risk appetite to both Board Director and mixed team audiences in a clear and compelling manner.
- Ability to challenge based upon fact and informed opinion, and in a way which opens up constructive debate.
- Ability to remain independent and to demonstrate that independence whilst also providing commercial, practical and value-add solutions for the business, influencing outcomes positively for all stakeholders and driving good commercial and customer solutions to risk issues.
- Must be delivery focused, possessing high levels of resilience and determination, can work under pressure.
- Experience of proactively engaging with senior management, demonstrating an inquiring mind and the courage to follow through to sound conclusion.
- Experience of setting and directing the objectives and responsibilities of the team with demonstrable success in driving the team to deliver desired and timely outcomes to those objectives.
- Demonstrable track record of co-ordination and delivery within a global operational risk management leadership and development role.
